  • Frontwoman Lizzy Hale told Artist Direct the story behind this song: "The first song I wrote like this was 'Dirty Work.' This series of songs turns the tables asking, 'What can I say that would start out one way and twist in the end?' I think Alice Cooper did that very well. On his earlier records, you weren't really sure whether it was him who was sick or if it was you who was sick for actually thinking that's what he was writing about [Laughs]. I ended up writing a few songs like that and 'Nothing to Do with Love' was so much fun to play. I took some inspiration from Tina Turner's 'What's Love Got To Do With It' but this has 'Nothing to Do with Love' [Laughs]. There's a huge response live, and everyone's yelling that line. You write these songs for yourself—you're getting it all out. It's a whole different level now; we're playing live, and all of these people are singing back to us. It almost means something completely different than what we actually began writing it for. This song is kind of a warning saying, 'I don't know if you want to mess with this. Maybe there are some things about me that you don't realize. Maybe you don't want to tap into them, or maybe you do… Either way, you've got to know it.' [Laughs]."
