Songfacts®:

  • Here, Halsey sings about being in a new relationship while still thinking about her ex. She laments the way she is using another man in an attempt to deal with her feelings - "If I keep my eyes closed, he looks just like you."
  • Just like Hopeless Fountain Kingdom's lead single "Now Or Never", this was co-produced by Cashmere Cat, Happy Perez, and Benny Blanco. However, The Weeknd, is also credited as a co-writer here. The song came together when Halsey was listening to tracks in the studio with Benny Blanco, when she heard The Weekend's ad-libbing over one instrumental.

"It was a melody he was doing when he was working on Starboy, and one that him and Benny talked about potentially wanting to give to me, but at the time I wasn't taking pitches…I had this whole idea, so I wrote a poem over his melody," she told Zane Lowe in an interview for Beats 1.

"It's a very traditional, really amazing kind of marriage of two songwriters, because he contributed melody, I contributed lyric, and then we made this song together."
