Songfacts®:

  • Poe Park is in the Bronx borough of New York City. It's named after the poet Edgar Allan Poe, who lived in a farmhouse on the grounds known as Poe Cottage from 1846 to 1849. This song is based on a true story: After a gig at the nearby The Village Inn in 1990, Hank Wedel paid a late-night visit to the park with another singer-songwriter, Slyvia Bagge. Sitting on the front porch of Poe Cottage, they call on the poet's spirit for inspiration and started writing the song before they were chased off by a guard.
  • Born in 1963, Hank Wedel split time between New York City and Cork City, Ireland. He didn't record "Poe Park 2AM" until 2020, when he teamed up with the Irish producer Declan Sinnott; they recorded it in Ireland between lockdowns. Sinnott plays slide guitar on the track.
