Songfacts®:

  • This song is about a girl who likes a guy who is already in love with someone else. She compares the relationship to a romantic comedy; in the movie they will end up together because the guy always figures out that the right girl was the friend who was there all along.
  • "If We Were A Movie" is from the first season of the Disney show Hannah Montana, where Miley Cyrus portrays a student who has a secret double life as pop star Hannah Montana (the biggest distinction: hair color). The show was a huge hit with viewers but also churned out series of chart hits and #1 soundtrack albums. After the theme song, "The Best Of Both Worlds," was released as a single, the first soundtrack album was released and six of the songs debuted on the chart, including "If We Were A Movie."

Over the next few years, Disney started to push Miley Cyrus as a solo artist apart from Hannah. When she toured for the first time, she did half the show as Miley and the other half as Hannah Montana.
  • The songwriters on this one are Jeannie Lurie and Holly Mathis. Lurie was one of the main songwriters on the show; Mathis also wrote a song for Emma Roberts called "I Have Arrived."
  • Instead of pulling footage from the show, Disney staged a concert and used Miley Cyrus' live performance as the music video.
