Songfacts®:

  • In this blissed-out upbeat song, Harry Styles urges his partner to give him all her love. When they're apart, it will give him something to daydream about.
  • This is one of several tracks on Harry's Game that Styles' fans believe to be about Olivia Wilde. The English pop star started dating the actress and director in early 2021 and it's likely she served as muse for the album's love songs. Other tunes potentially about Wilde include "Late Night Talking" and "Cinema."
  • Styles wrote "Daydreaming" with his go-to producers Kid Harpoon and Tyler Johnson. Louis Johnson, Valerie Johnson, Alex Weir, Quincy Jones and Tom Bahler all get credited as well because the track samples The Brothers Johnson's 1978 soul single "Ain't We Funkin' Now."
  • One of Styles' teenage heroes, John Mayer, plays lead guitar on the track. The "Gravity" star also appears on the Harry's Game track "Cinema."
  • Welsh session musician Pino Palladino plays bass on the track. He's contributed to several of John Mayer's albums and also is one third of the blues-rock outfit the John Mayer Trio.
  • Alayna Rodgers and India Shawn are the backing vocalists on this song along with three other Harry's Game tracks: "Late Night Talking," "Music For A Sushi Restaurant," and "Cinema." They performed with Styles at the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball in 2020.
  • Two musicians play horns on this funk groover.

Cole Kamen-Green is a member of one of New York's most in-demand horn sections, The Superpower Horns. He has also written, recorded and arranged for Lorde, Taylor Swift, and Laurie Anderson.

Ivan Jackson of the New Jersey production duo, BrassTracks. He also played the trumpet on "Music For A Sushi Restaurant."
