Songfacts®:

  • Zero is a concept album set in a nightmare future where an oppressive corporation has risen to power in the wake of a disaster under the guise of a savior. Hawthorne drummer Eron Bucciarelli told AntiMusic: "'Spark' is in the first part of the story arc. It details the first memory of the main character, Baker, of when the world first changed. He uses positive memories of the past, when life was seemingly more innocent, to gain the courage to explore the new landscape.

"At this point," he continued, "everyone is in hiding, frightened from the sounds outside. Kids have just started searching through the schools and old hangouts - for a sign of life."
  • In our interview with Hawthorne Heights frontman JT Woodruff, he said, "I really like 'Spark.' It's about the group of kids that are walking around the town that is now destroyed, but they're walking to places that they grew up hanging out at, whether it be the city square, the football field where they played in high school, stuff like that. Going back and bringing back all these memories. And that's what inspires them to figure out what is really going wrong here."
