Brother's Song

Album: Brother's Song (2007)

Songfacts®:

  • Co-written by Robert Ellis Orrall, this moving tribute to America's fallen was released with a video of some of the men - and women - who paid the ultimate price for Uncle Sam's pursuit of the "War On Terror." It's related by the younger sister of a soldier who doesn't return home.
  • Davis has a voice suited to this style of music, and the opening bars of her solo piano are strongly reminiscent of Joshua Kadison's "Jessie," a resemblance that is probably accidental; the song also has a string arrangement which gives it a melancholy effect. "Brother's Song" was a big hit with its intended audience, including the father of Patrick Nixon, the first soldier from Tennessee to die in the line of duty in the Iraq conflict. >>>
