Songfacts®:

  • This is the first single from Hilary Duff's fifth studio album, her first disc in seven years. "I took a break from music for quite awhile, but it gave me the power to choose my next steps carefully and I'm really proud of the album I've made," said Duff. "'Chasing the Sun' is a light and fun summer song that I hope helps people to feel a little more carefree."
  • The song was written by Californian singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat, her frequent collaborator Jason Reeves and Los Angeles producer Toby Gad (Beyoncé's "If I Were a Boy" and Fergie's "Big Girls Don't Cry.")
  • The song's music video was shot in Malibu on July 11, 2014. It finds Duff fantasizing about being on an exotic beach while stuck in a cramped office cubicle. Her love interest is played by actor Daniel Sobieray (Days Of Our Lives).
