Songfacts®:

  • The lead single from Hillsong Worship's 25th live album Let There Be Light, "Grace to Grace" was released in March 2016 as a song for Easter. Joel Houston, who co-wrote the track along with Chris Davenport, explained:

"'Grace to Grace' talks of the journey before everybody meets their maker. It's a process that involves taking up our cross and denying ourselves, following him daily. It's a process that involves humility and surrender time and time again, and it's impossible without grace. That's the picture for me. Grace upon grace upon grace upon grace."
  • Chris Davenport recalled the writing of the tune during a songwriting masterclass at Hillsong Conference 2016:

"I showed a chord progression and a melody to Joel and he thought it was cool so we started crafting the song from there. As a songwriter you have to remember that your songs shape what people believe. We are responsible just as much for what we mean as we are responsible for what we think we mean. People are quite defined by their confession so as a songwriter I need to put the right words in people's mouth."
