Songfacts®:

  • The melody was written in one day by Hole members Courtney Love, Eric Erlandson, and Melissa Auf De Maur; the full lyrics (as in all of Celebrity Skin) were written by Love. She walked into the studio one day and demanded that they all write a song that she could sing for her daughter (Frances Bean Cobain) at night, so they wrote this. Many people however misconstrue this to be a song about Frances, which it is not. Courtney has stated on numerous occasions that the song is about a girl driving down the Pacific Coast Highway, on her way to lose her virginity to her boyfriend, when she is blind-sided by a truck and dies. The title works as a double entendre. In the figurative sense, she's about to go to her boyfriend, and they will go to "Heaven Tonight," whereas in the literal sense, she is about to die and will never reach him. She will instead go to "Heaven Tonight." >>>

  • Jason from New Orleans, LaGreat song. So sad.
  • Sarah from Yuba City, CaOhh yes! I adore this song. Admittedly, this is probably the only song on Celebrity Skin that i just wasnt too keen on at first. (But that's probably because I was so used to hearing their more rough songs like "Violet" and "Pretty on the Inside.") Eventually, I came to love this song. Just the melody and the lyrics give off a cheesy, joyful vibe.
And you can hear it in the movie Never Been Kissed, starring Courtney's friend/Frances Cobain's godmother Drew Barrymore.
  • Theresa from Murfreesboro, TnHole's cutest song! I love everything about, the lyrics, music, the melody - a true winner!
