Songfacts®:

  • With a lyric by Hole frontwoman Courtney Love, "Mrs. Jones" is a grizzly song about a rape and a botched abortion. The bridge, "You will never stink so bad again," indicates the abortion is most likely the result of a rape. >>>

  • This was included on Hole's debut album, Pretty On The Inside, released on the small label Caroline Records. By the time they issued their major-label debut, Live Through This, in 1994, they had gone through some lineup changes, with just Courtney Love and guitarist Eric Erlandson remaining from the original group. Hole wasn't a very productive band - their next album didn't appear until 1998 - but they made a big impact with songs like "Doll Parts" and "Celebrity Skin." Their music was often overshadowed by the exploits of Courtney Love, but they had a lot of fans and earned plenty of airplay.
