Songfacts®:

  • This is the title track of the fourth studio album by Courtney Love's band Hole. The song is a complete rewrite of the version that Love played live in 2007 and 2008.
  • Love told Rolling Stone that "there's a lot of maternal instinct" on the album, and probably her favorite lyric is from this song, which goes: "Nobody's daughter, she's never was, she never will be beholden to anyone. She cannot kill. You don't understand how evil we really are,'" She explained, "I don't even know what that really means, but I know it's something to do with my daughter and it's also to do with me." Love is referring to her teenage daughter Frances Bean Cobain over whom she's had long-term custody battles.
  • Nobody's Daughter finds Love exploring greed, vengeance and feminism. She told Rolling Stone that David Bowie's Diamond Dogs, the "good side" of Pink Floyd's The Wall and '80s goth served as references for the album.
