Songfacts®:

  • Holly Dunn is tired of waiting around for her indecisive boyfriend in "Are You Ever Gonna Love Me," the first single from her fourth studio album. It was also her first #1 hit on the Country chart, where it stayed in the top spot for one week and stayed in the Top 40 for 14 weeks.
  • Dunn wrote this with her frequent collaborators Chris Waters (her brother) and Tom Shapiro. Writing love songs with your brother sounds a little weird, but for Dunn was business as usual. When we spoke with Dunn in 2016, she explained: "It's like two artists getting together and working on the same picture or the same sculpture. You're just in the project and you're just in the process, so I didn't really think: 'Oh, gee! I'm writing this love song with my brother; how weird is this?' We're just two writers. When we're in the room we're just two writers that happen to have grown up under the same roof. But we were just in our process and in our craft." (Here's the full Holly Dunn interview.)
