Songfacts®:

  • This Russ Ballard song about how someone can have control over you, no matter what, was Hot Chocolate's only UK #1.
  • Frontman Errol Brown told the Mail On Sunday January 25, 2009: "This song was played to me by Mickie Most, our producer, with a soft rock feel. I wasn't that sure about it, but Mickie was confident it would be our first #1. We made it more soulful and recognizably Hot Chocolate."
  • Russ Ballard explained in 1000 UK #1 Hits by Jon Kutner and Spencer Leigh that he had written this song, "like a show tune and I played it to Maurice Oberstein, the head of CBS and I told him I that I had a great song and I wanted to do it as a single. Maurice heard it and said, 'No, you must give it to a black band.' Mickie Most recorded it straight away with Hot Chocolate. I didn't like their version at the time, it seemed too slow and too English for me, but I got used to it. I wanted it more like Boz Scaggs, but Mickie was right and I was wrong."
