  • This is one of the more personal songs for Huey Lewis. "It really is a true story," he told Songfacts. "It was written about finally having a career, a gig."

Lewis started making music in the late '60s and joined a San Francisco band called Clover in the early '70s. Clover was one of those bands that always seemed on the brink of stardom but never quite made it. They released two albums in 1977 that were both produced by Mutt Lange, who in the '80s became a can't miss hitmaker for the likes of Def Leppard and Billy Ocean. But those two albums missed... badly.

Along with Clover keyboard player Sean Hopper, he Lewis formed Huey Lewis & the News and landed a deal with Chrysalis Records. They released their self-titled debut album in 1980 with high hopes, but it didn't even meet the lowest of expectations.

Lewis, now in his 30s, faced the harsh reality that he may never make it in music, but he finally found a home in 1982 when Huey Lewis & the News released "Do You Believe In Love?," the lead single from their next album, Picture This. A hit at last! (Written by... Mutt Lange.)

"Finally Found A Home" is part of the group's next album, Sports, the first one they recorded as a nationally known act.
  • The song is the "home" - it's a metaphor for Lewis realizing his ambition in the music industry. The title has a very literal inspiration though. The band was driving to the airport in San Francisco and went through the Stonestown neighborhood, where they saw some run-down houses. Their manager, Bob Brown, jokingly said, "Look! Finally found a home." Lewis decided that would make a good title and used that as the jumping-off point for the song.
  • Lewis wrote this song with the band's guitarist, Chris Hayes. Their manager Bob Brown also gets a writing credit because he came up with the title.

Other songs Hayes collaborated on with Lewis include "Workin' for a Livin'" and "The Power of Love."
  • The Sports album is packed with hits - five of them, including "I Want A New Drug" and "The Heart of Rock & Roll." "Finally Found A Home" is one of the four tracks that wasn't released as a single; of those four it's the one that means the most to Lewis.
