Songfacts®:

  • Idle Eyes was a Canadian group founded and fronted by Tad Campbell. It started out promisingly, with Tokyo Rose charting in their native country and achieving some success in the United States as well. However, the group never had a major hit after that, and their career petered out, although they continued to perform occasionally.
  • The song is about a femme fatale type the singer has fallen for, and is mostly remembered for its video, which features film clips of top billing actresses from the 1920s and 1930s. >>

  • During World War II, "Tokyo Rose" was what American soldiers called the female Japanese radio announcers that broadcast propaganda from Japan-controlled radio stations.

  • Paul Mytych from Garden City, Mi UsaFavorite song is Tokyo Rose. I might be going to Olympics in Tokyo with ex wife Rose. Isn't that mysterious? But it's true!!
  • Gord Guesford from Trail British Columbia Idle Eyes received a Juno Award for Most Promising band after the success of Tokyo Rose...Tad is from Warfield a part of Greater Trail community...The only person to ever receive Canada’s most prestigious award from our area...He should be celebrated for his accomplishments by our City...but because it was the Band that received the Juno and not him personally...they do not recognize him as a local success story
  • Angus from Ottawa, OnAccording to Wikipedia, Tokyo Rose only made it to #4 in Canada, although, perhaps that was a different chart (but how many charts are there?)
