Songfacts®:

  • A track from Imagine Dragons' sixth album, Loom, "Nice To Meet You" is about the dating process. Dan Reynolds explained in a video:

"I've always really hated that when you're dating someone, you also are kind of dating their friends. I'm always like 'I'm not signing up for that. I like you, but I really don't want to like have to like all your friends necessarily.'"

He continued: "Everybody knows that if they're really close to family, it's kind of like you're getting the family too even and that could be difficult I'm like 'I signed up for this but maybe not for that friend' you know type thing but her friend was actually super cool but she was er… the song actually explains it."
  • The song is a true story, and Reynolds got the girl's permission to write about it. When Reynolds played her the song she was like, "What does this mean," and he thought maybe it was a bad idea. But they're cool now and she laughs at it.
  • So who is this song about? Dan Reynolds divorced singer Aja Volkman after 11 years of marriage in 2022. After, he started dating actress Minka Kelly, so many Imagine Dragons fans believe "Nice To Meet You" is about her.
  • Reynolds teamed up with Imagine Dragons guitarist Wayne Sermon, bassist Ben McKee, and the Swedish production duo Mattman & Robin to bring the song to life. When they first started "Nice To Meet You," Reynolds had the "de de de de de dah" melody in his head. The Imagine Dragons frontman told Mattman and Robin he didn't want it to be a male voice, but he thought it should be the girl he's addressing.
