Songfacts®:

  • One of the earliest In This Moment songs, "Beautiful Tragedy" was released in 2007 when lead singer Maria Brink was just 19. The song is written from the perspective of someone approaching death and seeing the beauty in it. Brink's lyrics were driven by images of funerals where family members come together even if they're estranged. "Sometimes, something dark brings out something beautiful," she explained to Inked magazine.
  • This is the title track to In This Moment's debut album. It quickly became one of their most popular songs, performed at their many festival shows in their early years and also when they opened for Ozzy Osbourne in 2007. It was a staple of their setlists until 2012 when they changed direction for their fourth album, Blood. By this time, Maria Brink and guitarist Chris Howorth were the only original members, and they made their visual presentation a key part of their performances, with each song accompanied by dancers and sets and props and pyro.
  • This song got a lot of attention on MySpace, which was big in 2007. The band embraced the platform and found many new fans that way. Photos of Brink were always popular.
