Songfacts®:

  • In This Moment guitarist Chris Howorth told Artist Direct the story of this song: "For 'Scarlet,' we wanted to make a dark and eerie song," he said. "We started with acoustic guitars and came up with the main chord progression. Once Maria (Brink, vocals) hears a musical piece, she comes up with all of these ideas. We record it all. Then, we'll go back and listen to it and piece together parts. She'll work on the lyrics and come up with the concepts. We just wrote in the studio, and it was a cool way to do it."
  • Appropriately, "Scarlet" is part of In This Moment's fourth album, Blood. It came at a nexus when three members left, leaving just Chris Howorth and lead singer Maria Brink. They found a new lineup and emerged with a new look, adding dancers (the "blood girls") and dramatic interpretations to their videos and live shows. It was well received and helped them become a much bigger concert draw and also huge on YouTube.
