Songfacts®:

  • This is a track from In This Moment's fifth album, Black Widow. Frontwoman Maria Brink said: "This song is about rising to our fullest power and overcoming tragedy."
  • Asked by Berlin TV to what extent the lyrics on Black Widow are autobiographical, Brink replied: "It's usually mostly about my personal experiences. I just like to put into a metaphorical-type way. 'Cause I always have to write from personal things just so I can make sure that I'm connected to it, 'cause I think that's the magic in music. You have to make sure that I feel it, 'cause if I feel it, then other people feel it. So I think if you lack that emotional connection, then you lose that magic. So it is all in my experiences, but trying to do 'em in different… with using my imagination."
  • The video was directed by photographer Jeremy Saffer and Maria Brink. Said the singer: "I decided to do a stripped down, intimate video to go with the nature and the meaning of the song. I wanted to show everybody a more vulnerable side of myself and take out all the bells and whistles."
