Songfacts®:

  • This is about a guy who goes to a party and has a one-night-stand. The party is "Old and uninviting" until a girl shows up "In full blown Technicolor." She lightens up everything: "You enter and close the door behind you... now show me the stars as seen from the sky." The repetition of "That kind of girl" at the end indicates that she is a girl who will have sex with a guy after just meeting him. >>>

  • Marcelo from Manassas, VaIf only art were so easy. To most this song could mean about sex. But to me, it has a wider spectrum. This song is very special to me because I've heard it over and over again since 2004 That's 16 years!

Until this day. I still wonder what it is about. I think it's a spiritual song. About how we can see much better when we don't think of anything at all. What color is nothing. Black. And what is technicolor. All of the spectrum of light.

So. In conclusion. In order to find spirit you find it within nothing. That there is something in nothing.
  • Tim from Pgh, PaCould be a double entendre.
  • Chris from Norfolk, VaI believe the pink tractorbeam is a reference to VALIS, a novel by Phillip K. Dick, in which a pink laser gives the main character special powers. The reason I think this is because there is also a reference to Dick's novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sleep in Talk Shows on Mute. Brandon Boyd must be a big fan of Dick so go check out his books. And get your minds out the gutter, lol.
  • Adm from Ft Smith, Arit sounds like this is an explanation of a boy losing his virginity. from the line "Nothing is the same after tonight" is where i get this. theres def sex going on. this sounds like a story of an experienced girl taking a boys virginity.
  • Timmy from Mukilteo, Wathis is the greatest love song ever.
  • Molly from Os, CtThis song is so...profound, sexual! Love it.
  • Gabby from Winston Salem, Ncso was Carolyn Murphey a slut? i could believe it.
  • Ellie from Mesa, AzThis song also refers to meeting his former girlfriend, Carolyn Murphy, for the first time.
  • Brian from South Bend, Ini believe that pink tractorbeam into your incision is a reference from the movie logans run.
  • Alicia from Nashville, TnI have always thought there was more to this song. At a concert Boyd stated that this was an older song of their's but they never played it in the smaller clubs and bars because they were afraid of getting beat up.?
  • Nate from Aurora, Ili agree with all o you...great song too
  • Tim from Abilene, Tx"my pink tractor beam into your incesion" cant get any more sexual than that
  • Erika from Yuma, Azsexy above all outher explanations
