  • In this song, INXS frontman Michael Hutchence gets flushed with anxiety when he sees what's going on in the world, but all those problems seem to disappear when he's with his girl. At the time, he was dating another Australian singing sensation: Kylie Minogue.
  • Following "Suicide Blonde," "Disappear" was the second single from X, the follow-up to the group's breakout album Kick. There was a three-year gap between the albums that cost the band some momentum and continuity - during this time, they ventured on different side projects, with Hutchence releasing an album with a group called Max Q.

    Kick was entirely written by Hutchence and Andrew Farriss; X had some contributions from drummer Jon Farriss, including this track, which he wrote with Hutchence.
  • Thanks to a huge chorus and an irresistible "do do do do do" refrain, this song was a substantial hit that fit in well on pop radio before grunge and hip-hop took hold. INXS was also one of the top live draws around the world at this time.
  • The music video was directed by Claudia Castle, who also did some videos for Midnight Oil, including "Blue Sky Mine" and "The Forgotten Years." Mostly in black-and-white, the video for "Disappear" keeps the band in the shadows, with images of a masquerade ball sprinkled in.
