  • Irving Berlin copyrighted this song December 10, 1915. By this time he already had good reason to love a piano, having been thrust into the limelight four years earlier with his monster hit "Alexander's Ragtime Band," and performing in London - at a time when the only way to cross the Atlantic was by ship.

    Love it or not, in his 101 years, Berlin never learned to formally read music or to play in two keys. His piano was adapted so he could change key with a special transposing lever, not that his lack of formal education ever did him any harm.

    Like many of Berlin's songs, "I Love A Piano" became a standard, and has been widely recorded. >>>
