Songfacts®:

  • IShowSpeed is a comedy/video game-oriented YouTuber and rapper. Born Darren Watkins Jr. in Brooklyn, New York, Speed created his YouTube account in March 2016 and published his first video 21 months later. Five months after he released his debut song, "Pasito," Speed dropped "Shake" in November 2021. "Shake" blew up on TikTok, garnering Speed lots of attention.

IShowSpeed is also a massive football fan, and in June 2022 he dropped "Ronaldo (SEWEY)," a tribute to his favorite player, Cristiano Ronaldo. He released another football song, "World Cup," on November 4, 2022, a fortnight before the FIFA tournament in Qatar.
  • IShowSpeed kicks off the song by shouting out all but two of the 32 countries taking part in the 2022 World Cup. He mispronounces several of their names and forgets to mention Denmark and Spain.

During his first verse, Speed namechecks some of the best-known national teams, including, curiously, Italy, who did not qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

He continues to ramp up the hype for the tournament in the second verse before making his World Cup predictions in the outro. Speed foresees Portugal beating Argentina 3-2 in the final, with his hero Ronaldo scoring the winner with a free kick.
  • Speed raps his football-based bars over Wagee Beats' fast-paced production. This is the first major credit for the producer born Ryan Wage.
  • During the break, Speed samples Brazilian artist MC Tikão's 2009 track "O Ak do FB Ta Pegando Fogo." It translates into English as:

It was at the time of the trade, was-was-was at the time of the trade
  • "World Cup" rapidly went viral on its release and charted in several countries, becoming IShowSpeed's first chart hit.
