  • J. Balvin premiered this song at the 11th Annual Premios Juventud Latin Music Awards on July 16, 2015 in Miami, Florida. "With Ginza, I wanted to go beyond my comfort zone, take a risk and bring a new sound to my music," he said. "I want to continually explore new and original ideas for Latin music. Cowards rarely make history."

The single became the Colombian reggaeton star's first Hot 100 hit and his third #1 on the Latin Airplay chart.
  • The song is named after the popular Ginza upmarket shopping area of Tokyo, Japan which is known for its fashion. The title only appears once in the lyrics, during the ad-libbed section at the end of the track.
  • The music clip became the fastest Spanish-language video to reach 100 million views on Vevo - reaching the mark faster even than Enrique Iglesias' huge hit "Bailando."
  • Asked by Billboard magazine how he came up with the song's title, Balvin replied: "I used an Instagram filter called Ginza to share a snippet of the song - I simply left the name in the caption in case anyone wanted to use the same filter. But everyone started calling the song 'Ginza.' And when I realized it was also the name of a district in Tokyo that's all about entertainment, I thought it was meant to be."
  • The Energia album title is the result of electricity. "I was in LA, in the studio. And, that day everything that I touched shocked me," he said.
