Songfacts®:

  • Jacksonville, Florida Hip Hop Artist J. Dash is a piano prodigy who performed his first concert at the age of 5 and was in a blues band by age 12. He continued to devote most of his time to music, whilst studying for a degree in computer science at the University of Florida.
  • This title of this dance track stands for "With Out Prejudice." Dash told The Florida Times-Union that he first wrote and recorded the song in 2007. It was the result of some friends and him making up a dance to do at nightclubs and Dash didn't think much of it at the time, so moved onto other projects. A few years later, he updated, re-recorded and re-released it officially as a single and gradually people started catching on.
  • The single went viral after Miley Cyrus uploaded a video of her twerkin' to the song on Facebook. Other celebrities such as LeBron James and Amber Rose began tweeting about the clip, causing "WOP" to debut at #82 on the Hot 100.
  • The music video features Dash's friend, the celebrity Hip-Hop artist Flo Rida. He told Billboard magazine how the collaboration happened: "I've been in the circuit for a while in the South East region," Dash explained, "and way back in the day I used to do shows in Gainesville, Florida and I remember I would open a show, followed by Brisco, Flo Rida, then Rick Ross. Back then, nobody had a name like that other than Ross, so we were all scratching and scrounging trying to make it. I reached out to him when I was shooting the music video in Miami and he came through and showed up."
