  • Jung Ho-seok, known professionally as J-Hope, is a South Korean rapper, singer-songwriter, dancer, and record producer. The name "J-Hope" was chosen to express his ambition to be a beacon of hope for his fanbase and his group, BTS. It also references the Greek myth of Pandora's Box, where hope remained after all the other evils were released.
  • J-Hope was born in Gwangju, South Korea. His father was a literature teacher, and his mother ran an internet cafe. According to WSJ Magazine, neither parent danced or sang, so J-Hope isn't sure where he gets it from.

He has an older sister named Jung Ji-woo who is a fashion influencer and entrepreneur.
  • J-Hope developed an interest in dance from a young age and was part of an underground dance team called Neuron. He took dance classes at Gwangju Music Academy for six years before joining Big Hit Entertainment.
  • J-Hope graduated from Global Cyber University with a degree in broadcasting and entertainment. He later enrolled in Hanyang Cyber University for an MBA program in advertising and media.
  • His career began when he joined Big Hit Entertainment (now HYBE) as a trainee in 2010 after moving to Seoul. J-Hope debuted with BTS on June 13, 2013, with the single "No More Dream." As BTS's main dancer and lead rapper, he contributed to numerous hits, co-writing and producing tracks like "MIC Drop," "Boy With Luv" and "Life Goes On."
  • He released his first solo mixtape, Hope World, in 2018. When his song "Chicken Noodle Soup" debuted at #81 on the Hot 100 in October 2019, J. Hope became the first member of BTS to land a solo Hot 100 hit away from the group.
  • J-Hope has a slim, athletic build, standing at approximately 5' 10" (177 cm), with sharp features, bright eyes, and a radiant smile that fans often describe as "sunshine-like." He frequently changes his hair color, switching from natural black to vibrant hues like red and blonde.
  • J-Hope's fashion style, often referred to as "Hobicore," combines playful, colorful elements with streetwear. He has been named a fashion icon and has worked with brands like Louis Vuitton.
  • He enlisted in South Korea's mandatory military service on April 18, 2023, serving as an assistant drill instructor at the 36th Infantry Division. J-Hope was honorably discharged on October 17, 2024, earning praise for his exemplary service and leadership.
  • He enjoys Korean cuisine, particularly dishes like Kimchi Fried Rice and Bulgogi (grilled meat). J-Hope drinks espresso coffee.
  • J-Hope has collaborated with American artist Brian Donnelly, popularly known as KAWS, on various projects, including the cover art for his album Jack In The Box.
