Songfacts®:

  • Here, Jacquees sings about wanting to stay with his girlfriend, even though she doesn't have time for him. The song was included on Lost At Sea 2, a joint album he recorded with Birdman. The record was inspired by an experience on the Cash Money Records co-founder's yacht when the duo was literally lost at sea.
  • Jacquees wrote "You" with up-and-coming female songwriter Jazze Pha. He explained to Genius it came from the pair talking about times when they've been through a difficult period with a lover. The duo discussed how rather than leaving their relationships, they decided they wouldn't find anything better, so made the decision to stick it out.

"I always like to talk first so they can feel me out, they can know what I'm going through," Jacquees said. "Know what was going on and then we play the beats and then I'm good with melodies, real quick. It always start with the hook. We always start with the hook 'cause sometimes when producers make beats, they always put the hook first and you have to arrange the beat. So, we always start with the hook first."
  • During the bridge, Jacquees refers to himself as a problem solver.

    Know you got problems
You got a lot of problems
Know damn well I can solve 'em
You got a lot of problems
    Know you got problems

He explained to Genius: "I feel like I'm a problem solver 'cause I know how to compromise too. And then another thing that I learned, which I didn't know earlier on in relationships that I was in, I learned how to listen. I didn't know to listen really. I didn't know how to listen. But now, I can really sit there and be like, 'Yeah. Okay. Fo' sho. I get it.' I couldn't do that before."
