Songfacts®:

  • "Fantasy" is a disco-inspired pop song that explores themes of sexual liberation and self-expression. Jade sings about feeling safe enough with a romantic partner to share intimate desires and fantasies.

"It's kind of like a love song, but a fun, kinky one," Jade told The Face.
  • Jade wrote "Fantasy" with songwriter Pablo Bowman and producer Mike Sabath the day after they penned her debut solo single, "Angel Of My Dreams."

"From then on, I always knew it would be the second single," she said. It was released on October 18, 2024.
  • The production, handled by Mike Sabath, incorporates lush synths, strutting guitar riffs à la Nile Rodgers, and Jade's Donna Summer-esque vocals. "One of my main influences and inspirations is Diana Ross, so I definitely pulled a bit from her disco era for this track, as well as Donna Summer," Jade told Vogue.

But this is disco for the 21st century - Jade brings a "Motown-leaning vibe" into her own pop universe, with a gear shift toward the end and some tongue-in-cheek lyrics to keep things interesting.
  • The music video, shot by photographer and director David LaChapelle in Los Angeles, takes visual cues from Diana Ross' '70s Soul Train performances and the horror film Carrie. The drag queen Love Connie plays the villain.

LaChapelle first contacted Jade on her Instagram, saying how much he loved "Angel of My Dreams." After she finally met him in his LA studio - where he'd already created a mood board with her photos - they spent hours chatting about films and bonding over a mutual love of the big divas: Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand and Bette Midler.

"Then I played him 'Fantasy,'" she told Vogue, "and said I'd love him to do the video if he's into it. And then that was that."
