Songfacts®:

  • After winning the ninth series of The X Factor in 2012, James Arthur's debut album peaked at #2 in the UK. However he was struggling to deal with the limelight and after a series of controversial remarks on social media, Arthur found himself in a downward spiral. This song was written by the singer during that difficult time and closes his comeback album Back from the Edge. Arthur told Digital Spy:

"'Finally' is the last song on the standard album and it's one I wrote 100 per cent on my own. It's weird because it's written retrospectively and I'm thinking about where I want to be, but actually at the time when I wrote it I was crying and completely torn apart. Then it came to be the finale on the album, the resolve almost."
