Songfacts®:

  • This song finds a despairing James Blake singing of hitting a wall and resorting to drugs while writing his third studio album.

I'm in a waiting after every inhalation
    They're keeping me full today
    Where is my beautiful life?

In January 2015, midway through writing The Colour In Anything, James Blake hit a creative block. Every night he went to sleep below his home studio in south London, worrying about the record. To relieve the pressure, he smoked too much weed. "I hit a real low," Blake told The Guardian. "I started feeling like I was banging against the wall. It's a miracle that my current girlfriend walked in at that point."
