Songfacts®:

  • This was written by Blunt together with Max Martin, the Swede behind such blockbusters as Britney Spears' "Baby One More Time" and the Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way."
  • Blunt told VH1 about this song: "This is probably the most personal song [on the record]. I've gotten used to writing quite open lyrics and then being forced onto a stage. I'm relatively comfortable with that now. It's about an old relationship and someone in real difficulty. It's probably five months old, [I wrote it] just prior to when I went into the studio."
  • James Blunt told The Observer Magazine March 16, 2008: "Ladies love a soppy lyric. There's a real winner in 'Carry You Home'. 'If she had wings she would fly away/And another day God will giver her some.' You know the girls will get that one."
