Songfacts®:

  • James Blunt married lawyer Sofia Wellesley in September 2014 and two years later he became a proud father to a son. Blunt's domestic happiness has given him a fresh angle on his playboy past, which is reflected on his songwriting for The Afterlove. This vivid power-ballad, for instance, is about resisting temptation.
  • Blunt wrote the song with MoZella - who penned "Wrecking Ball" for Miley Cyrus - and Stephan Moccio, who writes for The Weeknd. Blunt told The Sun:

"I wrote over 100 songs (for The Afterlove) and rather than be inspired by music from my past, I wanted to write music I am influenced by right now. The Weeknd is my favourite artist of the last few years and Stephan is an amazing pianist and writer. I met him at a show with MoZella."
  • The enigmatic video was directed by Travis Kopach of Rad Brooklyn, who has also shot visuals for the likes of 3Oh!3 ("Don't Trust Me"), Taking Back Sunday (" Sink Into Me"), AFI ("Beautiful Thieves") and Sick Puppies ("Maybe"). The clip stars James Blunt and Brazilian Victoria's Secret model Kamila Hansen.
