Songfacts®:

  • This powerful, unsentimental ballad is a track from Some Kind of Trouble, the third studio album from English singer-songwriter and soft rock musician James Blunt.
  • Blunt views this song as the album's anchor, describing it in press materials as "the summing up of a life." He explained, "there are certain songs along the way that are milestones that define a writer to themselves. 'No Tears' is my milestone on this album."
  • Blunt told Gibson.com why he's especially proud of this tune from a songwriter's point of view: "Musically, I think it's special. I also like the sense of calm that emanates from the lyrics. For me, the song reflects the fact that I've made mistakes, and I have regrets, but that I take responsibility for those things. 'I've made my bed / So I lie in it / No tears for me.'"

  • Lou from VirginiaI found this song as a mother disturbing, because to me it seriously sounded like an open suicide note. To me it just seemed so terribly sad, the opening lines are heartbreaking, the not wanting anyone to cry for him even, save the tears for those left behind, i've been everything i ever wanted to be, so no tears, sounds all the world like an ending song not a beginning, not someone who sees a future. I'm just thankful this is an older song after just finding his music this past year. Very thankful he's still with us. Save the tears for those left behind to me were the most chilling words in this song. I really hope and pray he's not one of those people who mask there feelings with humor to give people the idea that he's ok when he's not. Dark thought-- you made me believe you were strong.
