Songfacts®:

  • Janet sings this as a duet with rapper Nelly. The song was produced by Jermaine Dupri, who said, "It's really just a record about when you need a friend, somebody you need to talk to, just call on a person. It's a friend record. The way Nelly and Janet are talking is more girlfriend/boyfriend, but it really goes out to friends."

  • After the infamous "wardrobe malfunction" at the 2004 Super Bowl when Justin Timberlake exposed Jackson's breast during a performance, Jackson caught most of the heat. MTV co-produced the half-time event and was forced to pay a fine, but it was Jackson who would pay the price. Fans were in an uproar when MTV blacklisted the singer and refused to play her videos, including this one.
  • This wasn't a big pop hit, but it went to #1 on the R&B chart, bringing Jackson to the apex of that tally for the 13th time.
  • With a production cost of over $1,000,000, the ambitious music video was one of the most expensive of all time (although that's nothing compared to the $7,000,000 bill for "Scream," the 1995 video she shot with brother Michael). Directed by Hype Williams, the clip features Jackson as a goddess who rocks five different exotic wardrobe changes - including a custom made kimono and nine-inch platinum heels - while she inhabits a colorful world created by blending live action with animation. "We wanted it to feel like we were painting a beautiful picture," Williams told US Weekly.
  • This song was written at a time when teams of producers were brought in to work with big-name pop artists, and as a result, the writing credits are pretty bloated. Along with Dupri, Nelly and Jackson, the other credited writers are Johnta Austin, LRoc (James Phillips), Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.
