  • Vocalist Dan Haseltine told the story of this song on a message board post at jarchives.com. He said: "We were commissioned to record a version of David Bowie's song 'Heroes' for the movie A Long Kiss Goodnight. We were not very inspired at the time by David Bowie's song, so we wrote 'The Chair,' which is about a girl overcoming the confines of a wheelchair by having a huge imagination... We laugh about that song, Anton Silverman played the violin on the song, and he was a bit of a freak... fantastic player, who just went nuts, and it was brilliant. The music supervisor for the film was not thrilled that we wrote a different song, so our song was not showcased much in the film... She was also the supervisor for the film Godzilla. It turns out that the Wallflowers were commissioned to record a version of David Bowie's song "Heroes" for that film... apparently, the music supervisor is a huge fan of that song. Many years later, I love David Bowie much more than I did in the mid-'90s and I would jump at the chance to cover one of his songs for a film."
