Songfacts®:

  • Florida native Jason Jones was introduced to Country music while driving between Florida and Georgia. After dropping out of Florida State University, he moved to Nashville and joined a band, which performed at the Wildhorse Saloon, and signed to a songwriting contract with Warner/Chappell. This Josh Kelley, Rachel Thibodeaux and Kyle Jacobs penned song is his debut single. The cut was included on a six-song digital extended play and released on May 31, 2011.
  • The song was inspired by memories of when Kelley used to go with his girl to the county fairs in Augusta, Georgia. He told The Boot that he was thinking back about an incident when having ate a funnel cake, his girl made him, "get on one of those spinning things that starts spinning really, really fast, and starts going in different vertical directions, and I remember throwing up in front of her on this first date!"
Kelley told the story to Rachel Thibodeaux and Kyle Jacobs and the trio wrote the song together. "It's a playful song about love and falling in love on a Ferris wheel," he explained. "But getting sick really inspired that tune!"
  • Jones told Taste of Country that the first time he heard the song, he recalled going to the fair as a kid. "It's one of my favorite memories, he said. "My cousin Tommy and I would always try to impress girls by wasting all our money on stupid prizes and just staring up at that big Ferris wheel. It's a fun summer song about young love and falling in love on a Ferris wheel!"
  • Back in 1966, English singer-songwriter Donovan also penned a song titled "Ferris Wheel." That tune told the tale of a girl that Donovan met who got her hair caught in a Ferris Wheel and had to cut it off.
