Songfacts®:

  • This is a very passionate song about devoting yourself to a lover, and it finds Gaines leaning a little toward the obsessive, with "Pictures of you surrounding my bed." In 2011, the singer/songwriter told us: "The majority of my songs are dramatizations of events in my life. 'I'll Have You' is a character that I inhabited to speak about an actual event in my life."

Gaines is not forthcoming about his personal life, but he did give some clues as to the object of his affections around this time when he told us about his song "Always Be."
