Songfacts®:

  • "Dinero" is Jennifer Lopez's first English single (albeit with some Spanish lyrics) since dropping "Ain't Your Mama" in April 2016. The song title is the Spanish word for "Money."
  • Lopez first heard the song in early 2017 when it was sent to her by Cory Rooney, a record producer who co-penned many of her early hits including "If You Had My Love" and "I'm Real."

Lopez agreed that it would be good for her and suggested to her manager Benny Medina that rapper Cardi B, who like the Latino songstress comes from the Bronx, be featured on the record. J-Lo told Beats 1's Ebro Darden: "I just thought she had a street intelligence that I liked, and she had a logic that just made me laugh and reminded me of girls from the Bronx."
  • Cardi B was eager to jump on the song and she contributed a verse in which she talks about their shared Bronx heritage.

Cardi B first earned money as an exotic dancer, while Lopez is also just an ordinary girl from the Bronx.
  • DJ Khaled added further production for "Dinero" as well as some of his trademark ad-libs, and the song was finished by December 2017.
  • The song originated with producer Tommy Brown ("Be Alright," "Let Me Love You") suggesting to Pittsburgh native Charles "Scootie" Anderson that he make a Spanish trap song. Anderson crafted a beat around an old Anthony Santos sample, which Brown sent to DJ Khaled while Cory Rooney sent it to Lopez.
