Songfacts®:

  • This fierce jam was penned by Sia Furler and recorded by Jennifer Lopez for her Second Act movie. The motion picture stars J-Lo as Maya Cargas, a supermarket assistant manager in her early 40s struggling with frustrations from unfulfilled dreams. Then one day she gets an opportunity to fulfill her career ambitions after she mistakenly gets put in a high-paying position at a Madison Avenue financial firm.
  • The song is a typical Sia-penned soaring ballad featuring verses about how difficult it is to push forward and a defiant chorus in which J-Lo sings:

I told myself I had to be a different someone
In order to win at a war I had already won
Yeah, I'd given up on the saying 'I'll never give up'
    But look at me now
Yeah, look at me, I'm limitless

Sia's hit-filled resumé comprises both her own recordings, which include "Chandelier," "Elastic Heart" and "Cheap Thrills" plus tunes penned for the likes of David Guetta ("Titanium") and Rihanna ("Diamonds).
  • Lopez premiered "Limitless" at the American Music Awards on October 9, 2018. She then released the tune on November 16, 2018.
  • The song's music video marks J-Lo's directorial debut and features her 10-year-old daughter, Emme, playing a younger version of her mom. We also see a range of females battling the forces of nature to eventually create their own storm. The message of the clip, according to Lopez, is for women everywhere to say: "I am worth something. I have value. I am equal. I am limitless."
