Songfacts®:

  • Louboutins are fancy (and very expensive) designer shoes identifiable by their red soles. Thematically, the song is kind of a high-end "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'," with Lopez stepping away from a bad relationship in her Louboutins. Lopez prided herself on keeping it real, but her fans couldn't get behind a song titles after her fancy footwear, and it stiffed.
  • Lopez debuted the song on November 22, 2009 at the American Music Awards, where she fell on her substantial rear end after jumping off the back of one of her dancers. The show is best-remembered, however, for Adam Lambert's sexually charged performance of "For Your Entertainment," where, among other things, he passionately kissed another man.
  • The song was written and produced by Tricky Stewart and The-Dream. The pair originally penned it for R&B artist Brandy but when she left Epic Records, the song stayed with the label and subsequently was given to Lopez.
  • Lopez explained the concept of the song to KIIS FM DJ Skee on his New Music Show: "It's basically about when you get to that point in a bad relationship and you're like, 'Damn, I really have to leave. It's just not good for me.' This song is actually about when you've made the decision - I'm out. It's not the girl who's like, 'I'm gonna take my stuff, and I'm gonna put on my sweatpants, and I'm gonna cry, and my girlfriends are gonna pick me up and we're gonna go eat ice cream.' It's not that girl. This girl is like putting on her hottest dress and her sexiest Louboutin shoes, and leaving your ass."
  • French shoe designer Christian Louboutin's name is mentioned 40 times in the lyrics. He told Fashion Week Daily about his reaction to being name-checked in the song: "Jennifer told me about the song back in January, and I was extremely flattered," he said. "But of course, in America the public pronounces my name in like a million different ways. So Jennifer called me, and she was like, 'Listen, I want to make sure that I get it right.' And she did... from the very first time!"

He added: "I know the song by heart now. Because the brilliant part of the single is that it's not about me. It's about a girl and her shoe. When something is so in mass culture and you have almost nothing to do with it, it's kind of cool. It's weird but not disagreeable. But it got me thinking: I've been around for a while!"
  • This was released as a single, slated for Lopez' seventh studio album, Love? but was left off the album because the song stiffed, earning little airplay and failing to chart on the Hot 100.
