Songfacts®:

  • This sassy country-rocker tells the tale of full-time working women who after doing a 40 hour week, then have to endure another 35 hour week at home.

If I bring home the bacon
I have to fry it up in a pan
    I ain't saying that
It's easier to be a man
    But let's get real
    When we get drunk
    We do it in heels

The song title was inspired by the quote about actress Ginger Rogers that she "did everything Fred (Astaire) did, except backwards and in high heels."
  • Jennifer Nettles wrote the slyly funny song with Brandy Clark after having "one of those" kind of days and storming her tourmates' bus one night. "I was very foul and cantankerous." She recalled to Taste of Country. "I think as women many times were are expected to do it all and make it look easy. And that is unreasonable."
