Songfacts®:

  • Jennifer Nettles wrote this bar room rocker about celebrity obsession with songwriter Richard Marx, who scored 14 Top 40 Pop hits from his first four albums in the late '80s and early '90s. During an album preview, Nettles said that Marx was pleased with the way the song turned out, since no one would ever guess he wrote it.
  • Though better known as a Pop songwriter, Richard Marx has had some success penning tunes for Nashville artists and has achieved three Country #1 singles: Kenny Rogers' "Crazy" plus Keith Urban's "Better Life" and "Long Hot Summer."
  • The song is driven by Ian McLagan's piano. The English keyboardist is best known as a member of the Rock band Small Faces (who later became Faces) as well as his collaborations with The Rolling Stones.
