Songfacts®:

  • Jennifer Nettles tells a first-person story of impulse on this ballad. "Sometimes in life we get stuck. And people get unstuck in various ways," she told Taste of Country smiling. "In this particular story she decided to go to France and have a fling."
  • The song was written and originally recorded by Holly Williams on her 2009 album, Here With Me. "When I heard it, I reached out to her and was like, 'I cannot believe this song,'" Nettles said, adding that the lyrics resonated. "It's scars and all approach to the reality of the fact that sometimes we just feel dead. And you just want to feel alive."
