Songfacts®:

  • This soulful track was released as the first solo single from British singer-songwriter Jess Glynne, who is signed to Black Butter Records publishing. At the time of its release Glynne had already featured on two chart-topping UK singles having provided vocals for Clean Bandit's "Rather Be" and Route 94's "My Love."
  • Glynne admitted to MTV UK it was a little scary releasing her first solo single. She explained: "I've never put anything out and the first thing I wanted people to hear from me was really important, because I wanted to set the right tone, I wanted to set my attitude, I wanted to show where I'm from, what I like. I think 'Home' represents all those things, because I'm not a softie, but then I've got a lot of different sides to me and I think 'Home' is a very good reflection of that."
  • Glynne's lyrics are about putting the past behind, whilst the instrumentation was cooked up by grime producer Bless Beats. She said: "I love that it fits in with the dance sensibility that's so popular right now, but Bless's production takes it in such a different direction. It's a really subtle but strong sound."
  • This was the song where Glynne found her sound. "One of the best pieces of advice I got given when I was going to do music for myself was go away and write a hundred songs minimum," she told Digital Spy. "I was like, 'What the f--k?! Write a hundred songs? That's kind of crazy'. I got to a point when I wrote one song two years later, and I was like, 'OK, this where I want to go'. That song was called 'Home'."
