Songfacts®:

  • "Beautiful Soul" was the first single from Jesse McCartney, who was 17 when the song was released and had staked his claim as a heartthrob thanks to his role on the TV series Summerland. It was common for young actors to make the move to music around this time - Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and Hilary Duff are a few that did - but McCartney had already been in the music business. He was in a boy band called Dream Street that had a popular song called "It Happens Everytime" in 2001.
  • The song has a sweet sentiment that appealed to McCartney's fans: He likes this girl for her beautiful soul. It was written by Adam Watts and Andy Dodd, a team that also wrote tunes for Disney's High School Musical.
  • "Beautiful Soul" ended up being Jesse McCartney's most popular song. It's the title track to his debut album, which ended up selling over one million copies.

His next album, Right Where You Want Me, was released in 2006 and landed a hit with the title track. His third album, Departure, came in 2008 and had another hit with "Leavin'."
  • The song got a lot of airplay on Radio Disney, but it also crossed over to major pop stations, including Z100 in New York City. That's where Jesse McCartney heard it on the radio for the first time. He was still in high school and had just finished his SAT exams.
  • In 2024, McCartney shared his thoughts on this song in an interview with People, saying: "I remember traveling the world and going overseas and people that didn't speak English knew the song and knew my name. I couldn't communicate with them linguistically, but through music we could, and it was really this special, crazy moment."
