Songfacts®:

  • "Who We Are" was the theme song to Jessica Simpson's 2010 VH1 docuseries Jessica Simpson's The Price of Beauty, in which she traveled around the world to discover what beauty is and its meaning to other cultures. Simpson co-wrote the song with Evan Bogart, Shari Short and the Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan. She said, "I was so moved by the eight cultures I explored for my new show. The women I met were so incredibly different in their customs and traditions but there was a common thread between them in their beauty. I was inspired to write the theme song for the show to reflect what I observed - that there is a unique beauty that lies within each of us, flaws and all. Our hearts, our souls, our passions are what make us each beautiful."
  • A portion of all proceeds are being donated to Simpson's "A Beautiful Me" movement, which encourages self-esteem in young people.
  • Here at Songfacts our main remit is to compile information about songs, rather than reporting on celebrity tittle-tattle. However, as there has been much attention devoted to the true nature of the relationship between the God-fearing country-pop singer Jessica Simpson and the alternative rock star Billy Corgan, we feel it is our duty to disclose that Corgan informed Rolling Stone theirs is just a platonic friendship. He said: "Sometimes people just like being around each other, and good things come out of that... If people knew her like I knew her, they would love her like I do." Simpson responded by saying that the unusual couple came together to record music: "For him to give his time and talents and share them with me, it was a great experience and I hope we can do more music together."
