  • Jessie J (real name Jessie Cornish) is a British singer and former child actress, who before releasing her own material, found success as a songwriter. Her highest profile composition in the early period of her music career was co-writing the Miley Cyrus track "Party in the U.S.A.."
  • This dance-pop track is her debut single as a solo artist. Cornish co-wrote the song and the other credited writers are:
George Astasio guitarist of the Californian rock band Orson.
Jason Pebworth vocalist of the Californian rock band Orson.
Xenomania musician Jon Shave who has also penned songs for Gabriella Cilmi, Girls Aloud and Sugababes.
Songwriter Kyle Abrahams who has also penned songs for Gabriella Cilmi, Chipmunk and N-Dubz.
Songwriter Peter Ighile who co-wrote with Kyle Abrahams the #1 hit Oospsy Daisy for Pop/Urban artist Chipmunk.
  • Cornish told The Sun that she's surprised this became her first full release as it started out as a joke - written with Rihanna in mind. She met the Barbadian star briefly when she was touring with Chris Brown. Said Jessie: "At the time I felt that the chart was very Auto - Tune heavy. There was a lot of guys with their trousers down by their knees and chains so heavy they couldn't hold their head up.And I just went into the studio and they played a beat and I just started singing, 'Do it like a brother, do it like a dude.'

And it was a joke, I was laughing. I said 'Let's write a joke song.' and within 15 minutes it was done. Rihanna's Rude Boy was out and I thought, 'It just has her swag all over it, let's write for her.' It was one of those songs that was supposed to be fun. I don't take myself seriously at all."
  • Cornish explained the tongue-in-cheek dance tune's meaning in an interview with MTV News: "It's a play on words for anyone that feels they got someone in life that has an ego, and sometimes you really wanna say 'F off' to. Everybody has that person in their life that intimidates them and makes feel them uncomfortable."
  • Said Jessie to The Sun: "This is the quickest song I've ever written. There's no hidden message. It just is what it is. I've always wanted to write a song that makes girls want to run out of the toilets to dance to and everybody needs a club track on their album."
  • Jessie explained the song in an interview with Global Grind: "'The deeper meaning is that everyone is equal. No one should make you feel intimidated and you can go, you know what, eff you, I can be who I wanna be and stand on my own two feet and not feel like I can't because you're making me feel like I can't. But at the same time it's a parody of the typical male that exists today and it's kind of a tongue in cheek, a way of going, you know, this is funny. It's not that I hate men. It's not like we're saying, women are better, we hate men. That's not it at all. But you know, sometimes it's nice to have an empowered feeling that makes everybody so equal."
  • This won Best Song at the 2011 MOBO Awards. Jessie J also won best UK act, best newcomer and best album for Who You Are at the ceremony, which was held on October 5, 2011. The MOBO awards are a British event celebrating music of black origin.
  • Jessie J claimed in a radio interview her people had sent "Do It Like A Dude" to Nicki Minaj to get on. Minaj responded by saying no one ever asked her to contribute to the tune, but she'd loved to have done so. "I have been obsessed with that song since the minute I heard it. I was doing promo in the UK and heard it on the radio" she explained.

Minaj added that since her artist Parker Ighile co-wrote the tune, she would have jumped on it "for some pickle juice."
