  • Jhay Cortez (birthname Jesús Manuel Nieves Cortes') is a Puerto Rican singer-songwriter who started penning his own songs at the age of 11. By the late 2010s, he had accumulated a string of writing credits on hit tunes by the likes of Cardi B ("I Like It") and Benny Blanco ("I Can't Get Enough").

In the meantime, Cortez was perfecting a sound for his own material, which combines the classic reggaetón riddim with elements of Latin trap. This song, from his second album with Universal Music Latin, was released as a single on February 22, 2019.
  • The steamy song finds Cortez singing about his sexual partner, who pretends she doesn't know him outside the bedroom. ("No Me Conoce" translates into English as "You Don't Know Me"). Cortez told Billboard the song was just something that came out.

"Sometimes I just go with what first comes out of my head. I always play with the melody until the words come out - the melody is everything. Melody, and then a concept. Like, what's going to be the title?"
  • Cortez recorded a remix with J Balvin and Bad Bunny. Their new version became Cortez's first entry as an artist on the Billboard Hot 100. Cortez told the story of how he hooked up with the two stars.

"When I released it, it was really hot on the streets in Puerto Rico, and people liked it a lot. A lot of artists liked it, too. Balvin would send me videos rocking with it. I have a really good relationship with Balvin, because we work together a lot. He's like my big brother. And he liked the song."

Cortez added that on his birthday, April 9, 2019, Balvin FaceTimed him saying he's got a friend who wants to jump on "No Me Conoce." When Balvin turned the camera around, he revealed his "friend" to be Bad Bunny.
