Songfacts®:

  • A track from Croce's last album released before he died in a plane crash, this one is about the Plaster Casters, who were notorious groupies known for making molds of rock stars' penises. The leader of this pack was Cynthia Plaster Caster, who Frank Zappa considered a brilliant conceptual artist and who Kiss wrote a song about. In Croce's tale the singer finds himself sentenced to 20 years in jail for his five minutes of statutory pleasure.
  • This song created some understandable tension in Croce's marriage. According to his wife Ingrid, Jim admitted to getting serviced by the Plaster Casters, which she didn't appreciate.

  • Curious from Los AngelesDoes someone have the cast of Jim Croce’ penis or do they know if it really exist. Curious

According to Ingrid, Jim Croce’ wife in her 2012 book “I Got A Name” she describes Croce as saying it happened - Maybe it didn’t take ? It would be nice if it was destroyed if does exist because he had a few indiscretions but was far from a raunchy guy. He was a very respectful man and was not meaning to go that direction it was sort of a momentary mistake the way it sounds. But it brought about a neat Little Rock and roll tune.
  • Deej from OregonA man named Leroy Brown sings backup vocals on this song. To my knowledge, he has no other credits. A bad, bad man.
  • Nicole from SydneyThank you Cem Green I was devastated the story that upset his wife was included . Can you find out if it's true? If there s any doubt get rid of it. It's like taking down a man we honour and respect. And making his memory dirty.
  • Cern Green from Indiana, UsaIn response to the above comment that Jim was "serviced by the Plaster Casters", Jim Croce is not listed among the artists that were subjects of the Plaster Casters' artwork (see list at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cynthia_Plaster_Caster). This was just one of the things in contemporary society that Jim included in his music.
